Our History
Where it all began
Baking to the highest standard since 1946
1946
John Bell returns home and sets up his bakery.


1947
During the coldest winter on record, John Bell provided door to door deliveries of bread and groceries, keeping the local villages stocked up during the harsh winter.
1960’s
Purchased the Lazonby village Railway buildings and moved to this site to create offices and a Bakery.


1970’s
Entered into partnership with the Regional Supermarket and have been working together ever since.
1980’s
Began to extend the Main Bakery as the business grew and have subsequently continued extensions into 90’s and early 00’s.


1990’s
Bells launched their first organic product range ahead of the organic movement.
2001
Commissioned the first dedicated Free-from Factory in the UK to become pioneers in the gluten, wheat and dairy free industry.


2005
Extended our gluten free factory and created an NPD facility.
2006
Received the Queens Award for Enterprise, being recognised for our Innovation in the Free From area.


2009
Entered the National Coffee Shop Sector catering for food service with Cakes, Tarts, Mini Bites.
2014
A further extension was completed on the dedicated Free-from Bakery along with a bespoke NPD Development Kitchen.


2016
Celebrating our 70th Year Anniversary with a refresh of Bells of Lazonby Range.
2020
Double the capacity and manufacturing capabilities in our Gluten, Wheat and Milk Free bakery. Bells welcomes more customers and continues scaling manufacturing.


2020
We Love Cake rapidly becomes largest Free From Sweet Bakery brand in Australia.
2020
We Love Cake enters the UK retail market and becomes the fastest growing brand for 3 consecutive years.


2022
We Love Cake vegan tarts ‘When Life Gives You Lemon Tarts’ wins Baking Industry Award’s ‘New product of the year’.
2023
We Love Cake enters the frozen and chilled dessert market to bring back great taste to family favourites.
